  • Description

Alongside the prestigious Châteaux Trottevieille and Troplong-Mondot, you will find Château Barde-Haut, which has 17 hectares of vines in Saint-Emilion, to the east to be precise, planted on clay-limestone soils and on limestone bedrock. The rows form a beautiful amphitheater facing south and opening onto the Dordogne valley, on the heights of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, a little away from the village. The vines are on average about 35 years old, and are composed of Merlot (about 75% in this wine) and Cabernet Franc (about 25%, depending on the vintage of course).
In the vineyards, the work is reasoned (and in the process of organic conversion), and is carried out according to traditional methods, with ploughing. The grapes are harvested manually in order to preserve the best fruit until the vat room. The cellars were renovated in 2011 by the owner Sylviane Garcin Cathiard, allowing a more precise work. The consultant oenologist Alain Raynaud advises the château throughout the vinification and maturation of the wines. The wine is matured for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood close to 80%.

“James Suckling” : A linear wine with fine tannins, red and black currants and minerals. Medium body. Salty, with tight fruit concentration and a pretty finish. Beautifully structured. 3.4 pH and 14% alcohol. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. One of the best I have had from this chateau.
