Château Alcée
Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
Description
Acquired in the early 2010s by Nicolas Thienpont, Château Alcée comprises just over six hectares of vineyards in the Côtes-de-Castillon appellation. The vines flourish on a first limestone plateau with outcrops of rock, while drawing their letters of nobility from red clays, and on a second limestone plateau that mixes superficial edges and clay. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc that make up this cuvée are harvested by hand.
The wine is vinified in concrete vats and aged in oak barrels (half new) for between 16 and 18 months. This wine contains a wonderful concentration of fruit flavours with a certain freshness supported by the energy coming from the Cabernet Franc grapes and the limestone terroir.
The iDealwine Primeurs tasting : “Château Alcée is a pure Merlot from young vines, a wine of unparalleled delicacy. Its taut structure energizes its fresh, concentrated aromas of red fruits such as strawberry, raspberry and cherry; the substance is superb and the wine easy to digest. A tangy bonbon from Nicolas Thienpont’s red clay in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. “
