  • Description

Situated on the edge of Pomerol, the 39-hectare vineyard extends over a soil composed mainly of gravel, resting on an alluvial subsoil. Yields of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are kept to a minimum in order to produce richer grapes. Vinification takes place in new barrels. The wine reveals a surprising attack, with floral aromas, which then lead to exceptional complexity and aromatic intensity.

Vintage 2024 blend: 48% Cabernet Franc, 46% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon.

iDealwine En Primeur Tasting Note:Harvesting began on September 18. Cheval Blanc’s drastic technical choices (sorting, densimetric bathing, etc.) made it possible to delay the harvest (accepting to have rotten grapes in the vines by waiting longer, in order to have ripe grapes) and led to a very sharp reduction in production (28 hl/ha compared with 39 hl/ha before sorting). But the result is worthy of the efforts made in this grueling vintage, and it’s a great wine that we’re tasting. A very dark, brilliant color, a nose of black fruit as well as cedar and cigar box. On the palate, it’s chewy and full-bodied, dense but not heavy, supple and perfectly balanced, with a long finish. This is a “monk soldier” in the words of Pierre-Olivier Clouet. A real favorite.
