Château La Mondotte
Saint Emilion - 1er Grand Cru Classé B
Description
Certified organic since 2014, Chateau La Mondotte possesses a lovely plot of nearly five hectares located on a clay and limestone plateau to the east of Saint-Emilion. From nearly sixty-year-old vines, the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes are harvested by hand and severely sorted before vinification in temperature-controlled wooden vats. Malolactic fermentation takes place in new barrels and the wine is aged for an average of one and a half years.
iDealwine Primeur tasting note : “The nose reveals a combination of red and black fruits and graphite, while the palate offers a dense body brimming with tannins and superb persistence.”
Wine Advocate : “I typically have a weakness for Canon-la-Gaffelière in the von Niepperg portfolio, but this year it’s the 2023 La Mondotte, a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, that stands out as the highlight of the range. Revealing aromas of dark berries, licorice and petals, framed by creamy new oak, it’s medium to full-bodied, layered and harmonious, with good depth at the core, supple tannin and a penetrating finish.”
