  • Description

In Pomerol, Vieux Château Certan boasts 14 hectares of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon vines carefully cultivated according to sustainable farming principles. These typical varieties of the region draw all their nutrients from soils composed of large pebbles, clay and iron.

Harvested by hand, these varieties are vinified in wooden vats before the wine is aged in barrels. Deep, dense and complex, this wine is often praised by professional critics for its “sappy” profile.

Vintage 2024 blend: 71% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon.

iDealwine En Primeur Tasting Note: The wine reveals aromas of red fruit, such as redcurrant and raspberry. The palate is full of freshness, with supple, round tannins. The increased proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure to the wine. 30 hl/ha 13.5%vol

Wine Advocate tasting note:A blend of 71% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2024 Vieux Château Certan opens in the glass with brooding aromas of dark berries, cedar, cigar wrapper, crushed mint and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, with good density for the vintage and sweet structuring tannins, it concludes with a sapid, slightly earthy finish. Yields after annual sorting came in at 30 hectoliters per hectare, and the wine is being matured in two-thirds new barriques.
