Château Phélan Ségur
Saint Estephe

Description
Château Phélan-Ségur’s Saint-Estephe is a typical regional blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The vines are around 35 years old on average and cover 70 hectares. They draw all the nutrients they need from the clay-gravel soils.
The 2024 Blend: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot.
iDealwine En Primeur Tasting Note: “The nose opens with tangy red fruit and blackcurrant aromas, lifted by a subtly smoky nuance evoking cigar. This year’s blend was cleverly adjusted: no Cabernet Franc, due to low yields, and less Cabernet Sauvignon than usual. The Merlots, shaped by the complexity brought on by hail, show remarkable finesse. The estate responded with precision to the challenges of the vintage, working with a modest yield of 30 hectolitres per hectare. On the palate, the structure is confidently asserted. If ageing needed to be shortened, it was done. Here two days less maceration have already helped to preserve elegance and avoid over-extraction. The Petit Verdot plays its part beautifully here. ”
James Suckling : “A structured and tannic wine that frames the fruit nicely, with a medium body and a juicy finish. Some lemon character at the end. “
