Description

The Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc vines, which are blended together to make up this Graves wine, are planted on deep, gravel soils with a argillaceous matrix. The plants, which are on average 30 years old, are pruned into the double guyot shape. When it comes to caring fro the vines during the growin cycle, Château Larrivet Haut Brion leaves cover crops between the rows of vines and removes leaves where needed. The harvests are conducted by hand when the grapes are perfectly ripe and the grapes are sorted on tables.
Plot-by-plot vinification takes place in temperature controlled cement vats and maceration takes place over many weeks (from 4 to 5 week) with punching down occuring. The wine is aged for 14 to 18 months in oak barrels, a third of which are new, another third of which having already seen one wine and the final third having already seen two wines. It is then fined before being slightly filtered.
The wine in the glass is a deep garnet colour. The nose is charming with black fruit, blackcurrant and blueberry aromas. It’s fin and with noticeble tannins that are are also supple. The balance wine will certainly gain abundance after ageing for many years. Serve this Château Larrivet Haut Brion at around 16 degress Celcius. This wine can be aged until it is ten years old for it to gain even more complexity.
It will pair wonderfully with flavourful dishes such as top quality meat. –

iDealwine Primeur tasting note : “Red and black fruit aromas and floral notes emerge from the glass, while the palate is fairly dense revealing supple tannins.”

Wine Advocate : “The 2023 Larrivet Haut-Brion bursts with aromas of cassis, coniferous forest, mulberries, orange zest and iris, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and layered palate with bright acids and a succulent core of fruit framed by powdery tannins. This year, Bruno Lemoine and his team employed whole-bunch fermentation for their Cabernet Franc, yielding excellent results. This charming, well-executed Pessac-Léognan is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and the remainder Merlot (notably reduced due to mildew).”
