  • Description

With a long history, the white wine from Château Carbonnieux charms anyone who tastes it with its crystal-like colour and its very unusual aromatic palette. Legend has it that it was even found on the table of an Ottoman sultan in the 18th century under the name of “Carbonnieux mineral water”. The vines grow on the famous clay-limestone soil of Pessac-Léognan’Garonne gravel used to produce probably the best dry white wines of Bordeaux.
The blend, although it may vary depending on the vintage, is traditionally 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Sémillon, with Muscadelle sometimes added. The grapes are harvested by hand so that the fruit is still at its best when it arrives at the cellar. Once there, the grapes are sorted, cleaned by hand, and pressed (with or without the stems according to the vintage’s needs). After a few days settling, fermentation continues in barrels, after which the wine is placed into various sized barrels. While being aged for ten months, the lees are stirred using the traditional, manual process. This gives more aromas and an additional chewiness to the wine. The barrels and casks are made of oak from the center of France.

The 2024 Blend: 67% Sauvignon Blanc, 33% Sémillon.

iDealwine En Primeur Tasting Note:“This classic blend, dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, opens with a fresh, floral bouquet, enriched with hints of boxwood and lychee. The pure, extremely crisp texture, reveals a delightful bitterness and a vibrant energy, further lifted by delicate white pepper nuances. The persistent finish is marked by lovely citrus notes.

Le Figaro Vin : “ A fine, taut nose, with notes of sap, particularly pine sap. On the palate, pure and dynamic, with a beautiful tension, its salinity makes you salivate intensely, extending into a finish marked by lemony notes.
